Unlike other console versions, the port of Skylanders: Imaginators offers full handheld play without needing a TV. However, it introduces a unique requirement: no Portal of Power is used. Instead, figures are scanned in via NFC (amiibo-style) using the right Joy-Con’s NFC reader or the Pro Controller .

It is possible to convert XCI to NSP and vice versa using PC tools such as or NSCB . However, note that update files and DLC (which are NSP format) cannot be converted to XCI .
